You’re Never Too Old For Online Dating
I’m pushing 50 right now, but I still find myself attracted to younger women. Is there harm in listing my age as 40 on my profile?
-Feeling A Little Old
If there’s one thing you should never do, it’s lie on online personals profile. Your initial interactions are essentially the foundation for your relationship, and having that foundation be build on a lie, no matter how small it may be, is a poor idea.
There’s millions of people using online dating sites, which means no matter what you’re looking for, chances are that person is looking for someone that fits your description. Whose to say that there’s not 30-somethings online looking to date a 50-something, but they overlook your profile because you’re listed as a 40-something? Lying about little things can have a big impact on your online love life.
There’s also something to be said about having to tell them the truth in the future. How long will you talk to them before you reveal your true age? A few days into talking to them online? The first time you meet in real life? After you’ve become serious for a while? Once she sees your drivers license? The hard part about starting a lie is having to keep it going, and unfortunately with something like your age, it’s not something you can hide forever.
There’s no need to be embarrassed about your age. Regardless if you’re looking for someone much older or much younger, putting yourself closer to their age group isn’t going to help your game. Finding your match through honesty and a good dating ethic will be a far more effective method than just changing your age!
