Online Dating Success Story

Here at Online Personals FAQ, the e-mails we usually get in are questions about how to navigate online personals and the apprehensions that come along with it. This morning we were glad to open our inbox to a lovely e-mail from a frequent reader named Mary who has given us permission to share her success story with our OPFAQ readers.

My first husband, Gerry, passed away in 2004. I guess like any younger deaths, I wasn’t expecting it. He was only 42 and we have two children together who were 18 and 14 at the time. They had a hard time handling it, but they eventually went away to college and I was left alone in the house we used to share together. I tried to fill my time with friends and family, but it became hard after a while. Everyone had their own lives, their own families to attend to, and it wasn’t fair for me to always ask them to entertain me just because I didn’t want to be alone.

I started reading blogs and websites, including this one, that acted as great inspiration to try online dating. I wasn’t looking for a date necessarily, but a companion to spend my time with. I ended up meeting Derek through a free dating site that was specifically for people in our town. We met for coffee during the first week, went to dinner a few times in the next, and before I knew it, we were spending almost every night together.

I married Derek last year on what was the happiest day of my life. My husband gave me my two children, but Derek has given me the strength to be happy again. After Gerry died, I had no strength to socialize with people in my daily life, and I really don’t think I would have gotten anywhere in my love life without the help of online dating.

This Sunday will be our one year anniversary, and we will celebrating while attending the wedding of two friends of ours, who also met on a dating site. I have nothing but good things to say about the process, and hope that others find the same success that Derek and I have found.

It’s estimated that over 3000 people each day in North America go on a date with someone they met through an online dating site. If you’re willing to put yourself out there for it, you can be one of those lucky ones as well.
