Online Wedding Dates
Next month is my younger sisters wedding, and I refuse to go alone. Do you think it’s appropriate to bring a date I found online to such a big family event?
Samantha
Well Samantha, when it comes to wedding dates, you can bring just about anyone, but with online dates there may be risks.
You need to insure you know your date well. Are they the kind of person that is good with big crowds? When you’re at an event like a wedding, especially a family member’s wedding, your date should expect to be barraged with questions. When family members meet a new date, they want to know all the W’s about them. Who are they? Where are the from? What do they do? When did you meet? Etc, etc.
Of course, there are better suited dates you could bring instead of someone you met online. Chances are your sister and yourself have mutual friends, and bringing them may make your sister happier than bringing a stranger. When people think ‘date,’ they usually think someone they have romantic intentions for. The beauty of the wedding date is that you can bring anyone from a cousin to a best friend, as long as they’re ready to dance and have fun.
The first date with someone you met through online personals already has enough pressure on it as it is. You have to test the waters to see if your online chemistry can transfer well to the real world, and doing that is easiest in a relaxing environment.
In the end, if you’re comfortable taking a date you met online to such a big function, go for it! You’ll have so much to concentrate on with the wedding that even if the date goes awry, it’ll be easy to forget about.
