OKCupid Review

In my OKCupid review I take a look at one of the biggest, most popular dating websites out there. However, (and not to give away the ending) I should point out that just because you’re the biggest doesn’t necessarily mean you’re the best. In fact, I should point out right from the get go that I have reviewed far superior free dating sites, and ones that don’t have half the problems that OKCupid does. I was really looking forward to using OKCupid for a month, because I have been reviewing a lot of sex dating sites lately, and although those have been a lot of fun, I have also been thinking that meeting someone special that could turn into a relationship would be very nice. Ideally, of course, it is a woman that can both be someone I can hang with and feel real emotions with, as well as have toe curling sex times with that is what I’m looking for!

ABOUT

ok-cupid-picOKCupid was one of the first really big free dating sites out there, and as a result had a huge surge of membership when it first started. I’m sure back then it must have been great. However, with time and use, the site lost a bunch of people who didn’t like the way the site was being run anymore. Maybe it was when the people from Match.com took it over. In any case, that left a bunch of abandoned profiles that are still on there today.

FEATURES

The main thing that OKCupid has going for it is their matchmaking program. The sign up process is pretty comprehensive (and boring to be honest), but since they get to know you and what you’re looking for so well, their matches are pretty good. Although, some of the matches they came up with for me were waaay of the mark. My match page had some married women looking to cheat on their husbands, and women who were totally incompatible with me. I admit I’m not the easiest person to get a bead on (just ask my psychologist), but these matches were really out in left field. The site is pretty easy to navigate and lets you control your provacy settings, which is a nice touch. I also appreciateds the fact that their mobile app was pretty decent. It needs work, but as a basic thing to do on your cell phone, it’ll do. The do have other features, like advertising block, but for that, you have to upgrade to the paid VIP membership. Ah, there’s the rub!
Here’s the pricing breakdown for OKCupid:

PRICES

Regular Membership: Free

A-List Membership: 1 Month – $4.95

3 Months – $3.95/Month

6 Months – $2.95/Month

With the A-List Membership you can let other members see that you have checked them out, and you can tell if your emails have been read by the person you’ve sent them to. You can change your username and turn off the advertising.

DRAWBACKS

To cut to the chase, the main problem with OKCupid is that it has become a victim of its own success. Because it is free (but not really), it got a huge following back in the day. However, as people found out it wasn’t what they wanted in a dating site, they left, leaving behind a ton of abandoned profiles. So, even though they claim to have a huge membership, once you start emailing people and never get a response from half of them, you begin to figure out that the profiles you’re writing to aren’t being checked by the people who started them. Waste of your time.

The other problem with the site is that it has a ton of fake profiles set up by people, and is over run with prostitutes. Every time I logged on, I had three or four emails from whores in my city looking to increase their stable of clients. This wasn’t what I was after in any way, and was a huge turn off. Plus, the advertisements all over the site were annoying. If I upgraded, like I said, they would be turned off, but then the site isn’t free like it enjoys telling us, is it? Normally I don’t mind when a site starts off with a free membership and then makes you upgrade, especially if the site is like AdultLink and there are a bunch of great features and benefits. But with OKCupid, it’s still your basic free site, but you have to pay? No thanks.

 REVIEW CONCLUSIONS

I was thoroughly unimpressed and disappointed with the month long review I did on the site. After all the touting that the site itself does, and all the testimonials I’ve heard from people who have used the site, I expected to have a date every night, and hopefully somewhere in there would be Miss Right. Unfortunately, I get the sense that OKCupid’s best days are behind it, and that the testimonials all over the site are probably all fakes to trick people like me. However, just to prove my point, here are the details of the actual month I used the site: I sent out 155 emails to different women, and received only 53 replies. I think this is due to the proliferation of fake profiles that I mentioned earlier. I received 29 emails from independent women, but a full 26 of them were from prostitutes looking for me to pay for sex. Of the 53 women that responded to my emails, I emailed them all a few times each, and decided to have first dates with 22 of them. However, I think that some of those women were either bots or employees of OKCupid, because of the 22 first dates, 6 of them backed out at the last minute for a variety of suspicious reasons. Of the remaining 16 first dates, I’d say 7 were actually compatible, and 3 were the kind of women that I’d consider dating again. As you can imagine a return of all that time and effort to meet 3 OK women is definitely not worth it. If I were you, I’d give OKCupid a miss!
