Personal Ads- What To Include
One of the questions I’m asked most by both men and women is “What do I put in my online personal ads?” When it comes down to it you can put whatever you want in the ad, but there are a few basic guidelines that I find are most effective.
You should keep in mind that what you’re writing will be your first impression of anyone reading it. Most first impressions can be manipulated with body language and personal conversation, but when you’re finding an online match, you only have one chance with your profile. Try your best to cut the fat in your first paragraph and add only your important W’s. Who are you, what you do, where you’re looking to meet someone, and, if you want, why you’ve turned to online dating. Be sure to avoid any negativity in your profile– are you on here because your husband of 24 years cheated on you, and now you’re starting back at square one in the dating game? People don’t need to know the gritty details, they just need to know that you’re now open to the opportunity to meet and date new people.
Go through other profiles of both people looking for sex, and people looking for the sex you’re looking for. This will let you see what you’re attracted to in a profile, and what you think makes for an attractive profile. If you realize that the profiles that weigh heavily on work habits and future ambitions turn you off, maybe you’re better off creating a profile that centers around your hobbies and what you’re looking to accomplish in the near future.
Knowing what you want and who you want to attract is the most important thing when creating your profile. If you want to find a long term relationship, then you’ll want to post your profile on a different page than ones people are posting adult personalson.
Lastly, don’t add any personal information on your ad. It’s common to want people to be able to contact you by any means, but there’s safety precautions you have to take when online dating. You can’t know who you’re talking to until you build proper communication and trust over time, and that’s the right time to give out your phone number and full name. Keep yourself safe by staying smart.
It’s easy to write a good personal ad: Just stay honest. If you fabricate or elaborate, eventually the people you’re talking with will find out. Treat your personal ad like you would a first date: Show what you want, give them a look into the real you, and keep a positive attitude.
