Is Texting Really Talking?

People texting, don't text your boyfriend

How many times have you said to a friend, “I was talking to so-and-so last night and they said blah blah blah!” when referring to a ‘conversation’ you had via text message? Probably quite a few. But when it comes to dating, are we just settling when our conversations are written through a QWERTY keyboard?

If you’re trying to date someone, establishing a personal connection in the early stages is essential, and that can’t be done through a cell phone.

In today’s society, people want to be connected 24/7. If you’re not together, you’re at least up-to-speed on their every move through Facebook, Twitter, texting, and whatever other digital medium you keep track of each other on.

The problem with that is you’re not giving yourself any breathing room to sit back and evaluate the relationship. It’s easy to think it’s perfect because it’s always on your mind, but what Facebook tells you and what your heart tells you are two completely different things.

Once you’ve found your match online, you should put effort into taking technology out of your relationship. Keeping things like social media websites and text messages out of your relationship will allow it to grow more organically. Distance does make the heart grow fonder, after all! Cutting off the constant communication will allow you to appreciate them more when you’re together, and will clear your mind to connect with your true feelings about them.

If you need to talk with each other, use your voices and ditch the text!
