Internet And The Single Parent

Starting your online personals adventure can be intimidating enough as is, but when you add in the single parent factor, it turns into a whole new ball game. When you’re first entering the online dating world, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. How much of my time is this going to take up? What if the people I’m interested in aren’t interested in a single parent? If I end up dating one of these people, should I introduce them to my kids? With all the questions they worry themselves with, it’s no wonder newly single parents are among the most hesitant to join online dating sites.

The truth is, online dating is great for single parents. I find that a lot of my close friends who find themselves looking for a match for the first time since becoming a parent connect easier with people than they do when they try to do it away from the computer.

I wanted to gather the advantages for single parents dating online to prevent you from being discouraged from the idea.

It gives you that much needed get away. No matter if you spend 5 minutes or 5 hours a day on dating websites, it acts as a great break away from all the bottles, the diapers, and the general new mom duties.

You’ll meet more new people than you would anywhere else. If you think of all the places new moms go, there’s not a whole lot of room to make a romantic connection. The grocery store, the doctors office, the park… These are all places where you’re concentrating on your child and not the people around you. When you go on dating sites, your sole focus is on who you’re talking to and what kind of connection you have. It’s hands down the best way to meet people after starting such a busy life from having children.

It puts your focus back on you. If you ask any new parent what they have done for themselves lately, they’ll probably draw a blank. When you’re a new parent, you spend more than a majority of your time on your child, and not on yourself. when you start dating again, it gives you the opportunity to start thinking about yourself again. No matter who you have in your life, you should always be your own #1 priority. Others can tie for that position, but you should never let anyone pass it.

You can do it on your own time. When I ask single parents why they aren’t dating again, they always tell me that they simply don’t have the time. That may be right when you’re dating offline and you need to find a sitter, drive to the date, spend time with them and get home, but when you’re on the computer, you can do it from the comfort of your own home, and on your own time. Like I said before, you can spend 5 minutes or 5 hours doing, but as long as you do it, then you’ll have a good time.

Single parents shouldn’t be afraid to get back in the dating world. It’s just as fun as it was the first time around, and there’s always ways to work around your busy schedule. So log on and find someone to talk to that doesn’t cry when you take away his bottle.
